Couple of days since the last musing. Miss me? Yeah, didn’t think so.
Flipping through a web design portfolio book the other day, I came across a site that looked intriguing. headautomatica.com is a nice looking layout, especially considering the amount of information that’s crammed therein. The most interesting thing about the site, however, turned out not to be the layout, the design, the interface, or the colors. As with all good sites, the content rules. Awesome content, too:
I’m sure you’re not an aging, ink-stained wretch like me, and so Head Automatica is second nature to you. But, if you’ve been carving out vector art—staring myopically into your dual cinema displays— and so you’re new to HA like I am, I will inform you that they are a pop band. But Pop in the good way, with a capital ‘P’ and carved out of the same hooky, backbeated, lyrical sonic assault that Nick Lowe & Dave Edmunds, Elvis Costello, The Paul Collins Beat, and Squeeze are carved out of. Sturdy stuff and made to stand the test of time.
Interestingly, frontman Daryl Palumbo wasn’t even born when those artists first came on the scene. Elvis Costello already had eight (8!) albums under his belt and Imperial Bedroom was charting when Mr. Palumbo arrived on the planet. That doesn’t seem to have kept him from borrowing from the heavy-laden bag of musical tricks of Elvis and the others; Head Automatica delivers the goods, and is well worth an extended listen.
